Farr City Council celebrates Far Connect program graduation and Men's Health Week events

The City of Pharr is making strides in community engagement and health awareness, as highlighted during the recent City Commission meeting on July 7, 2025. A key focus was the successful conclusion of the eighth class of the Far Connect computer literacy program, which has empowered 127 residents with essential digital skills. Funded by a grant from Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, the program provides free laptops and classes in both English and Spanish, aiming to bridge the digital divide for families in need.

Yuri Gonzales from the city communications office emphasized the program's impact, noting that it not only enhances computer skills but also opens up new opportunities for participants. The city encourages residents to register for upcoming classes, which are designed to be accessible and beneficial for all, especially those who may lack access to technology.

In addition to digital literacy, the meeting also showcased the city's initiatives for National Men's Health Week. Various events were organized to promote awareness and encourage healthy lifestyles among men in the community. Activities included a social media campaign, educational sessions on health topics, and a golf tournament aimed at fostering camaraderie and health discussions among participants.

Public Health Director Nico Topanga highlighted the importance of these initiatives, urging men to prioritize their health and seek support when needed. The city plans to continue these efforts, reinforcing the significance of health awareness and community involvement.
