Wake County Sheriff's Office updates on Project Lifesaver tracking program

Currently, Project Lifesaver serves 45 clients, with an additional 15 individuals on a waiting list due to funding limitations and equipment that is no longer under warranty. Since January 2024, the program has successfully activated eight times to locate missing clients. Funding for the program has traditionally come from volunteer efforts and local organizations, but there is a pressing need for additional resources to maintain and expand the service.

The discussions at the meeting underscored the county's dedication to enhancing public safety and supporting vulnerable populations, while also highlighting the challenges faced in securing adequate funding for essential programs. As Wake County continues to grow, officials are focused on ensuring that community safety measures keep pace with the needs of its residents.
