White Rock Library celebrates 10th anniversary with July 26 street fair

During the recent Library Board meeting on July 7, 2025, in Los Alamos County, officials highlighted the community's growing engagement with library programs, despite weather-related challenges. The meeting revealed that attendance at library events has significantly increased compared to previous years, indicating a positive trend in community involvement.

The board reported that a recent performance by Clan Tinker attracted 187 attendees, even in chilly conditions. Additionally, the ongoing "Read with a Ranger" and "Read with a Police Officer" programs in White Rock have been well-received, drawing between 70 and 80 participants each week. These programs aim to foster community connections and promote literacy among residents.

The summer reading program, facilitated through the Beanstack platform, has also seen impressive participation. In June alone, the library recorded 208 adult participants, 40 teens, and 177 youth, surpassing the total attendance for the entire summer of the previous year. While officials anticipate a slight decline in participation during July, the current numbers reflect a strong interest in library offerings.

Looking ahead, the board announced plans for the White Rock Street Fair on July 26, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the new White Rock Library. The event will feature various activities for children and is expected to draw a crowd. The library is seeking volunteers from the board and community to assist with the fair, which will include attractions like a bouncy house and lawn games, in partnership with the recreation department.
