City Council updates special event permit process to enhance efficiency and safety

With 144 event applications received in 2024, of which 127 were approved, the city aims to reduce unnecessary permits for smaller gatherings. The introduction of a one-stop payment model for event fees is another highlight, making it easier for organizers to navigate the financial aspects of hosting an event.

DeCono emphasized that the updates would also ensure that city-sponsored events adhere to the same permit requirements as community-organized events, fostering transparency and fairness. The proposed changes include new guidelines for event safety and clarify the conditions under which a permit is required, such as events involving fireworks, temporary structures, or street closures.
