City holds community meeting on Bayshore Laguna safety improvements

Residents of Venice are set to engage in a comprehensive safety alternatives study for the Bayshore and Laguna Drive area, following a recent information session held on July 7, 2025. The meeting, attended by city officials and community members, focused on addressing safety concerns along these busy roadways, which have been a topic of discussion for over two decades.

Acting City Engineer John and Assistant City Manager James Clinch emphasized the importance of community input in shaping potential solutions. The city plans to distribute a resident survey in the fall, allowing both local residents and interested parties to weigh in on proposed safety measures, including sidewalks, paved shoulders, and speed control devices. The survey will be available online, ensuring broader participation from the community.

During the session, residents voiced their concerns about safety, with some sharing personal experiences of injuries on Bayshore. While many attendees expressed support for sidewalks, others cautioned against measures that might increase traffic or disrupt the neighborhood's character. The city has yet to finalize any plans, as they are committed to thoroughly analyzing community feedback and engineering considerations.

Clinch reassured attendees that the city council is dedicated to finding a balanced solution that addresses safety while preserving the neighborhood's charm. He noted that the upcoming survey results will be presented in a second community workshop, where further discussions will take place.

The meeting highlighted the ongoing commitment of city officials to engage with residents and ensure that any future developments reflect the community's needs and preferences.
