During a recent government meeting, Singh, representing the Pinyin Residence Improvement Association (PYREA), advocated for the approval of the New Asia senior housing project in Chinatown. This initiative aims to provide affordable housing for low-income seniors, marking the first such development in the area in two decades.
Singh, a longtime resident of Central Pyrenein, emphasized the pressing need for affordable housing in Chinatown, where many immigrant families reside. He highlighted that the New Asia project would offer over 170 units specifically for seniors, addressing a critical shortage of affordable rentals in San Francisco. Many seniors currently face challenges due to language barriers and limited incomes, often living in shared accommodations with inadequate facilities.
In addition to housing, Singh noted that the project would also revive a banquet hall, which is essential for the community's social and cultural activities, especially after the pandemic severely impacted local businesses. He urged the commissioners and supervisors to support the project, underscoring its potential to significantly improve the lives of seniors in the community.
The meeting underscored the importance of addressing housing shortages and supporting community infrastructure in Chinatown, as stakeholders continue to seek solutions for the area's residents.
