The City of San Francisco held a meeting on July 4, 2025, to discuss ongoing developments in public housing, specifically focusing on a significant project aimed at increasing affordable housing units in the area.
The meeting began with a presentation on the site plan for a housing development that will ultimately include 1,600 units, comprised of 800 affordable units and 800 market-rate units. Currently, there are 619 existing public housing units on the site. The first phase of the project, known as 1101 Connecticut, was completed in 2019 and includes 72 units.
Attention then shifted to the second phase of the project, which involves infrastructure improvements such as streets and sidewalks. This phase began construction in 2021 but faced delays due to issues with PG&E and other pandemic-related challenges. Despite these setbacks, the project is nearing completion, with construction on Block B, which will provide 157 affordable units, having started in August 2022. This block is expected to be finished by April 2026.
The presentation included renderings of the development, highlighting the steeply sloping site, which features an 80-foot elevation drop from one end to the other. The design aims to create an aesthetically pleasing building that will contribute to the community's housing needs.
In summary, the meeting underscored the city's commitment to expanding affordable housing options while addressing the challenges faced during the construction process. Further updates on the project's progress are anticipated in future meetings.
