Public housing concerns took center stage at the recent San Francisco Housing Authority meeting, where tenant Kelsey Hechsberg voiced frustrations over delayed payments following a mediation agreement. Hechsberg, a resident of Potrero Hill apartments, reported that despite an agreement to receive the first installment of funds within three days, nearly two weeks had passed without payment. "The check will be there tomorrow," she recounted hearing repeatedly, highlighting the urgency of her situation as she faces a 30-day move-out deadline.
The meeting also featured an update from CEO Tanya Lehi regarding the procurement of a supportive services provider for Plaza East. The Housing Authority had initially posted a Request for Proposal (RFP) in June 2024, but the submitted proposals did not meet competitive standards, prompting a protest period that is set to expire soon. Lehi confirmed that the authority plans to resolicit the RFP after the protest period concludes, with funding of $400,000 per year over three years allocated for the services.
In addition, the authority is preparing to issue an Invitation for Bid (IFB) for capital improvements at Plaza East, with a budget of $5 million, including $2 million from city funds. The meeting underscored the ongoing challenges faced by tenants and the authority's commitment to improving housing services in the community.
