Cameron County celebrated a significant milestone at the July 1, 2025, Commissioner’s Court meeting, honoring Mr. Pedro Garza Jr. for his remarkable 35 years of dedicated service to the county. Garza officially retired on June 11, 2025, after nearly 24 years with the Cameron County Tax Assessor Collector's Office.
The resolution recognizing Garza highlighted his extensive career, which began with his completion of law enforcement training in 1987. Over the years, he held various roles, including jailer, reserve officer, and bailiff, before joining the Tax Assessor's Office in 2001. His leadership skills shone through as he was promoted to sergeant investigator and later appointed supervisor in 2021.
During the meeting, Garza expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunities he received and the friendships he formed throughout his career. "It's been an adventure," he said, looking forward to starting a new chapter in retirement with his family.
The Commissioners Court, alongside Tax Assessor Collector Emilio Eddie Garcia, extended their sincerest appreciation for Garza's contributions, emphasizing that his commitment to the community has made a lasting impact.
