Barnegat School District highlights successful audit and community support initiatives

Barnegat Township School District is celebrating significant achievements in student performance and community support following the recent Board of Education meeting held on November 26, 2024. The meeting highlighted a successful audit and recognized generous contributions from local organizations, which will provide essential support to families in need during the holiday season.

Superintendent Kate praised the business office for their hard work in completing the audit, especially noting the challenges faced by new staff members. The meeting also acknowledged the Friendly Sons of Shalayeli and the Patriot Financial Group for their donations, which will ensure that eight families receive Thanksgiving meals and supplies for the extended holiday weekend. Additionally, the transportation department was commended for their efforts in organizing and delivering these essential items.

The meeting showcased the positive impact of student initiatives, including the Hoard Belt leaders in training, who collected over a thousand cans for the Barnigan food pantry. The NJ ROTC cadets were recognized for their participation in local Veterans Day ceremonies, demonstrating the school’s commitment to honoring community service.

In terms of academic progress, the meeting transitioned into a data harvest session, where various school representatives shared impressive statistics on student proficiency. Notably, 18% of seventh graders in ELA are already performing above grade level, and 98% of four-year-olds can recognize their names, with 71% able to write them. The fourth-grade ELA students showed remarkable readiness, with 70% demonstrating proficiency in content from the previous year, indicating a strong foundation for future learning.

These developments reflect the district's ongoing commitment to enhancing educational outcomes and supporting families, setting a positive tone for the upcoming academic year. The Board encourages community members to engage with school representatives to learn more about these initiatives and the progress being made.
