A significant proposal to amend land use designations within Marion County's urban growth boundary has garnered attention during the latest Planning & Zoning Commission meeting. The proposed change aims to convert approximately 250 acres from low residential to World Equestrian Center (WEC) designation, extending the equestrian area southwest along West State Road 40.

This amendment is particularly relevant as it focuses solely on the urban area, leaving rural sites unaffected. The Golden Ocala World Equestrian Centre, located west of 100th Avenue, will not be impacted by this request. However, concerns regarding traffic impacts remain a focal point for county staff. The county is collaborating with the developer on a development agreement, which will undergo a coordinated state review involving input from various agencies, including the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
