The recent government meeting in Mineola highlighted the achievements of local students, showcasing their talents and dedication to various educational programs. The event celebrated several awards and recognitions that not only honor individual accomplishments but also emphasize the importance of community involvement in education.

One of the standout moments was the recognition of students participating in the PSEG "I Am Empowered" program, which aims to educate students in grades 4 through 8 about energy efficiency and conservation. Out of 243 teams that submitted public service announcements, three teams from Mineola placed in the top 32, with one team achieving a spot in the top 10. Each member of the winning team received $75, and their teacher was awarded $200 for a pizza party, highlighting the fun and engaging nature of the program. The students recognized included Victoria Holgren, Madeline Gerimenko, and Cora Murray, who were celebrated for their creative contributions.

Additionally, two students were acknowledged for their submissions to the National PTA Reflections Program, which encourages artistic expression among youth. Arjun Shah was recognized for his photography, while Nicole Heisey was honored for her literature submission, both advancing to the state level.

The meeting also recognized students from the Institute of Creative Problem Solving, a highly competitive program for gifted and talented students. Xander Schwetz was acknowledged for his participation, while Aiden Chowdhury, Carter Vangeli, and Hanalei Da Silva were selected to represent Mineola in the upcoming year.

The achievements of the Mineola Wizards, Mustang Matrix, and Mineola Megatrons were also celebrated for their performances in a recent hackathon. The fifth-grade Wizards secured second place for their capital defense project and fourth place overall, while the sixth-grade Mustang Matrix earned fourth place overall. The seventh-grade Megatrons showcased their skills with a second-place finish for their project.

The meeting concluded with the recognition of two exceptional high school students, Matteo Berry and Fatima Sheikh, who were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society for their outstanding achievements in career and technical education.
