Avon Police Department swears in new officers Dean Holian and Jacob Moore

The Town Council of Avon, Indiana, held a meeting on June 26, 2025, where a significant highlight was the swearing-in ceremony for two new police officers, Dean Holian and Jacob Moore. Chief Stoops expressed his enthusiasm for the event, noting that it is one of the most rewarding aspects of his role to welcome new officers to the department.

Officer Dean Holian, originally from Kentucky, has a diverse background that includes experience as a corrections officer and a patrol officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD). He and his family chose Avon as their home due to his wife's teaching position in the local school system. Holian aims to engage in proactive policing and hopes to work in drug interdiction or as a detective in the future.

Jacob Moore, a Greenwood native, graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a degree in criminal justice. He previously worked at Chick-fil-A, where he served as an area director. Moore expressed a strong sense of brotherhood within the Avon Police Department, which resonated with Chief Stoops during the selection process.

The ceremony was officiated by Judge Stephanie Lemait Lucan from Superior Court 5, who has a long-standing professional relationship with Chief Stoops. Both officers took their oaths, pledging to uphold the Constitution and perform their duties to the best of their abilities.

Following the swearing-in, a brief recess was called for family members to take photographs, marking a celebratory moment for the new officers and their loved ones. This event underscores the Town of Avon's commitment to enhancing its police force and fostering community engagement.
