The Laredo Independent School District (LISD) held a special called meeting on June 26, 2025, to highlight student achievements and discuss educational programs. The meeting showcased the impact of various initiatives aimed at preparing students for future careers and higher education.

The session began with student testimonials, emphasizing the benefits of the P-TECH program at Sierra High School. Students shared their experiences in gaining industry certifications and engaging in work-based learning, which has equipped them with practical skills in fields such as HVAC and veterinary medicine. One student expressed gratitude for the program, stating it has prepared them for both the workforce and further education.

The meeting also featured a presentation on the upcoming LISD GT Showcase, which will recognize elementary students who participated in Texas Performance Standard projects. These projects encourage research and creativity, culminating in a community event where students will display their work and receive awards.

In addition, students from various schools shared their aspirations and experiences. A junior from the Vidal and Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts highlighted the value of hands-on photography projects, while a senior from Hector J. Garcia Early College High School discussed his scientific research achievements, including being published in a professional journal.

The meeting concluded with a tribute to Manuel Morales, a reading teacher and U.S. Army veteran, recognizing his contributions to the district. Overall, the meeting underscored LISD's commitment to empowering students and fostering community engagement through educational excellence.
