This initiative, which has been in place for several years, aims to provide essential clothing to students in need, particularly those attending smaller schools within the district.

The NHS, comprised of academically high-achieving students with a minimum GPA of 3.5, focuses on four core pillars: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. The organization has taken significant steps to enhance community engagement, especially during the summer months when members have more time to dedicate to service projects. The uniform drive, which began under previous NHS leadership, has evolved into a community-wide effort, garnering support from local businesses and city officials.

During the meeting, NHS representatives shared their experiences from the initial years of the drive, which faced challenges such as limited community interest and logistical issues, including the need for facilities to wash donated clothing. However, with perseverance and outreach, the program has gained traction, receiving donations from families and local businesses like Best Burger and Ace Hardware. Councilwoman Alice Chen has also been instrumental in supporting the initiative.

As inflation has increased the cost of uniforms and supplies, the NHS has adapted its approach, focusing on bulk purchases during back-to-school sales to maximize resources. The organization plans to host a uniform drop-off event in July, encouraging community members to contribute by donating uniforms, shoes, and hygiene products.
