Tamarac officials have declared June 28, 2025, as "Community is Stronger than Cancer Day," recognizing the vital support provided by Gilda's Club South Florida to cancer patients, survivors, and their families. The proclamation was presented by Michelle J. Gomez, a proud cancer survivor, who emphasized the importance of community and laughter in the fight against cancer.

The declaration highlights alarming statistics, noting that over 18 million people in the U.S. are living with a history of cancer, with an estimated 2,041,910 new diagnoses expected in 2025 alone. In Florida, approximately 171,960 new cancer cases are anticipated this year. The proclamation also acknowledges the significant role caregivers play, with an estimated 2.8 million individuals providing care to cancer patients annually.

Since its inception in 2021, Community is Stronger than Cancer Day has grown, with 196 locations celebrating the event in 2025. Last year, Gilda's Club South Florida served over 643,000 individuals through adult programs and nearly 103,000 through programs for children and families, demonstrating the organization's commitment to community support and education.

Gomez shared her personal journey, noting that laughter has been a crucial part of her healing process. The community's efforts have raised over $22,500 for Gilda's Club through fundraising events, showcasing the power of collective support.
