Residents of Tamarac are raising concerns about traffic safety as the city considers a new auto service business in a local shopping plaza. During a recent government meeting, community members voiced their worries about speeding vehicles exiting the plaza, which includes popular establishments like Jimmy John's and a smoke shop.

One resident highlighted a troubling incident where a woman walking her dogs was struck by a speeding car, resulting in serious injuries. This incident has intensified fears among neighbors, particularly those with children and pets living near the plaza. The resident urged city officials to implement measures to ensure the area remains safe, such as directing traffic to exit through Prospect Road instead of residential streets.

The proposed business, a vehicle service and repair shop, aims to fill a vacant space that has been unoccupied since 2020. The applicant, Adrian Simon, emphasized the need for such a service in the community, noting that existing auto repair shops do not cater to specialized vehicles like trucks and SUVs. Simon assured attendees that his business would maintain a clean environment and would not contribute to the existing traffic issues.

City officials acknowledged the community's concerns and discussed potential solutions, including the possibility of installing speed bumps or closing off certain access points to reduce cut-through traffic. The planning board has recommended approval of the new business, contingent on meeting specific conditions aimed at mitigating traffic impacts.
