Tamarac is set to enhance its commercial landscape with the launch of two new incentive programs aimed at revitalizing local plazas. During a recent workshop on June 23, 2025, city officials unveiled the Commercial Plaza Recovery Program and the Commercial Facade Grant, both designed to support plaza owners in improving their properties and ensuring compliance with city regulations.

The Commercial Plaza Recovery Program offers structured assistance to plaza owners facing violations. By collaborating with city staff, owners can address issues while benefiting from financial incentives. Notably, if they engage local firms for at least 20% of their project costs, they can receive reimbursements of up to $5,000. For projects utilizing 100% local firms, the reimbursement can reach $10,000, specifically targeting small, minority, and women-owned businesses within Tamarac.

In addition, the Commercial Facade Grant aims to uplift smaller plazas in poor condition. This program provides a 50% reimbursement for eligible exterior improvements, with a maximum award of $250,000. Property owners must begin construction within 12 months and complete it within 24 months of receiving the grant. A key stipulation is that the property cannot be sold for two years post-grant, ensuring continued maintenance and compliance.

Both programs are part of a broader $3 million budget allocation, with $1 million earmarked for the Commercial Facade Grant. The city anticipates that these initiatives will not only improve the aesthetic appeal of commercial corridors but also stimulate local economic growth by supporting small businesses.
