The Plainview City Council meeting on June 24, 2025, focused on an important initiative to upgrade the city's water infrastructure. The project aims to replace existing residential and commercial water meters with advanced metering infrastructure, known as AMI Meters, which will provide residents with more detailed information about their water consumption.

Over the next few months, contractors will begin the installation process, which is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM, with some work potentially occurring on Saturdays. Before the installation starts, the city plans to inform residents through various channels, including local media, social media, and the city’s website.

Contractors from Amaresco and Pedal Valve Incorporated will be easily identifiable by their uniforms and vehicles, which will display company logos. Prior to replacing a water meter, contractors will knock on residents' doors to explain the process and request that water not be used for approximately 30 minutes during the installation. If no one answers, they will check if water is currently being used at the home and may return later if necessary.

During the installation, contractors will turn off the water supply, remove the old meter and box, and replace them with the new AMI meter. They will not enter homes and will only access outdoor faucets located at the front or side of the residence to flush the water lines after installation. If an outdoor faucet is not accessible, residents will receive instructions on how to flush their lines themselves.

In cases where installation cannot be completed due to locked gates, loose pets, or other issues, contractors will leave a door hanger explaining the situation and providing instructions for rescheduling.
