DC Public Schools (DCPS) kicked off its Back to School Information Session on August 22, 2024, with Chancellor Dr. Louis Farabee highlighting the excitement surrounding the upcoming school year. The session, which featured American Sign Language and Spanish interpretation, aimed to equip families and staff with essential updates as students prepare to return to the classroom.
Dr. Farabee reflected on a successful summer, celebrating over 20 graduation ceremonies and the achievements of more than 2,500 graduates from the DCPS Class of 2024. He also praised the participation of DCPS scholars in the MCFA DC summer fellowship program, which connects youth with public service internships, emphasizing the importance of student engagement in community change.
The Chancellor acknowledged the hard work of the food services team, who provided over 60,000 breakfasts and 80,000 lunches during the summer, ensuring students had access to nutritious meals. He encouraged educators to recharge over the summer and prepare for the energetic return of students next week.
Looking ahead, Dr. Farabee introduced the DCPS five-year strategic plan, reaffirming the district's commitment to excellence and collaboration with the community. The session promised further insights into this plan, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in achieving educational goals.
