School councils honored for excellence in community service and leadership achievements

The Socorro Independent School District (SISD) celebrated the achievements of its student councils during a special board meeting on June 23, 2025. The highlight of the evening was the recognition of elementary and middle school student councils for their excellence in various project areas, including community service, health issues, and environmental initiatives.

Students from several schools were honored for their outstanding contributions. Cactus Trails Elementary, Doctor Sue Shook Elementary, Helen Ball Elementary, Mission Ridge Elementary, Eastlake Middle School, Montwood Middle School, and William D. Slider Middle School all had representatives present to receive accolades. Each council showcased their commitment to leadership and community engagement, with sponsors accompanying the students to the front for a group photo.

In addition to the younger students, all seven high school student councils were recognized for achieving the prestigious National Gold Council of Excellence from the National Student Council. This honor reflects their dedication to high standards in student service and leadership. Schools such as America's High School, Eastlake High School, El Dorado High School, Mission Early College High School, Montwood High School, Pebble Hills High School, and Socorro High School were acknowledged for their exemplary work.

The meeting concluded with a reminder that photos from the event would be available online for families and community members to download. This recognition not only highlights the hard work of the students but also emphasizes the district's commitment to fostering leadership and civic responsibility among its youth. The SISD continues to support and celebrate the achievements of its students, paving the way for future leaders in the community.
