In 2023 alone, there were approximately 9,700 emergency department injuries related to fireworks, resulting in eight fatalities. The majority of these incidents were attributed to misuse and device malfunctions. Additionally, fireworks caused over 31,000 fires in 2022, leading to an estimated $109 million in property damage.

The seminar underscored the significance of adhering to California's regulations regarding "safe and sane" fireworks, which are defined as those that do not launch into the air. Stowe stressed the necessity of educating customers about the safe use of these products, particularly regarding the dangers of sparklers, which can reach temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Participants were informed that a significant portion of fireworks-related injuries occurs during the weeks surrounding July 4th, with a notable percentage of injuries affecting individuals aged 25 to 44, as well as children aged 5 to 14. The seminar included practical demonstrations, such as how to use fire extinguishers, and provided guidelines for safely operating fireworks booths.
