The Christian County Commission celebrated a significant milestone in senior tax property credits during their recent meeting, reporting a remarkable 98% renewal rate for eligible seniors. With the deadline for applications now passed, the county processed 2,722 new applications from seniors who had never applied before, bringing the total number of participants to 4,054.

Commissioners emphasized their proactive approach to outreach, having mailed out over 4,120 reminders and personally contacted 328 seniors just days before the deadline. This effort was met with appreciation from the community, as some seniors expressed gratitude for the extra support in navigating the application process.

Despite the impressive numbers, officials acknowledged the challenges faced by the senior population, including mobility issues and the unfortunate reality of seniors passing away. As a result, the commission is sending out additional letters to the remaining 67 seniors who have yet to renew, hoping to capture any last-minute sign-ups.

The commission's commitment to ensuring that all eligible seniors, aged 62 and over, can benefit from these tax savings reflects a broader goal of supporting the community's aging population. As discussions continue, the focus remains on maximizing participation and addressing any barriers that may prevent seniors from accessing these vital resources.
