Orange County officials are urging residents to prepare for efficient storm debris collection following recent hurricane impacts. During a demonstration on June 20, 2025, officials outlined the importance of properly sorting debris into designated piles to streamline the collection process.

The meeting emphasized the distinction between green debris, which consists of natural vegetative materials, and mixed debris, which may include construction waste and household items. Residents are encouraged to create separate piles: one for green items like trees and bushes, another for construction debris such as drywall and carpeting, and a third for any household goods affected by power outages.

“Our debris contractors will first pick up the green debris, followed by mixed piles,” an official stated, highlighting the coordinated effort between the utilities and solid waste divisions to ensure timely removal of all debris types. Residents were advised to begin clearing their properties to minimize the impact of the storm.

The demonstration also showcased a claw truck, which is designed to efficiently collect larger debris piles. Officials noted that debris piles should exceed three cubic yards for effective pickup. They cautioned that some small vegetative residue might remain after collection, urging residents to assist in cleaning up any leftover materials.
