The California State Assembly convened on June 19, 2025, to honor the memory of Baldwin Park Police Officer Samuel Riveros, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty earlier this month. Assemblymember Rubio led the tribute, highlighting Officer Riveros's bravery and selflessness during a shooting incident where he attempted to save his partner, Officer Anthony Pimentel.

Officer Riveros, affectionately known as Sammy, was remembered for his kindness, dedication, and passion for public service. He graduated from UC Irvine and joined the Baldwin Park Police Department in 2016, quickly rising through the ranks to become a SWAT team member and later a field training officer. His commitment to mentoring fellow officers was noted as a significant aspect of his career.

The assembly also acknowledged the injury of Officer Pimentel and the loss of civilian Darius Wong during the incident. Officer Riveros is survived by his family, including his mother, stepfather, sister, and two brothers, as well as the Baldwin Park Police Department and the community he served.

Assemblymember Rodriguez also spoke in remembrance, expressing the deep sorrow felt by the law enforcement community and the impact of Riveros's dedication to public service. The assembly members unanimously agreed to adjourn the session in honor of Officer Samuel Riveros, recognizing his legacy and the profound loss felt by many.
