James Island's public works department is making significant strides in infrastructure improvements, as reported during the Town Council meeting on June 19, 2025. Melissa Flick, the public works representative, announced the successful closure of the Woodhaven project and provided updates on ongoing initiatives.

The Ocean View project is nearing completion, pending the reestablishment of vegetation, which is crucial for finalizing the work. Meanwhile, the Quail Run neighborhood is set to see repairs next week, where two failed pipes under the roadway will be slip-lined before Charleston County can restore the road to its normal condition.

Flick noted that a scheduled biweekly meeting with Charleston County was canceled, but she expressed optimism that operations would return to normal in July. Maintenance efforts are ongoing, with vegetation cutbacks and ditch cleanings taking place in several areas, including Fort Johnson Estates and Mount Vernon. These proactive measures aim to prepare the community ahead of the upcoming hurricane season.

Additionally, a recent demonstration of a vacuum truck showcased new equipment options for the town, including a smaller truck that does not require a commercial driver's license. Paving has also commenced on Green Veil Road, marking another step forward in the town's infrastructure development.
