The Michigan City Parks & Recreation Board has approved a new site plan for the relocation of the "You Are Beautiful" sculpture, which is currently housed next to City Hall. This decision comes as part of a larger development project in the area, necessitating the sculpture's move. The new location will be across from Pullman Park and will serve as a trailhead for the Singing Sands Trail, addressing a current lack of facilities for trail users.

The redevelopment project, fully funded by the Redevelopment Commission, includes enhancements such as solar lighting for the sculpture and the addition of native, low-maintenance landscaping. The design, created by SmithGroup, aims to maximize views from both the trail and Highway 12, making it an attractive spot for visitors.

Board members expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting the importance of amenities like restrooms and picnic shelters, which are currently planned as alternate features depending on budget constraints. The board confirmed that once completed, the park will fall under their jurisdiction for maintenance, ensuring it remains a well-kept space for the community.

In addition to the sculpture site plan, the board discussed urgent repairs needed for the HVAC system at the senior center. With temperatures exceeding 80 degrees in parts of the building, the senior center director reached out to Arctic Engineering for assistance, highlighting the challenges of finding vendors capable of servicing the specialized system.

The meeting underscored the board's commitment to enhancing community spaces and addressing immediate facility needs, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for Michigan City residents.
