The Hauppauge School District held its Senior Academic Awards ceremony on June 16, 2025, celebrating the achievements of outstanding students across various disciplines. The event recognized individuals for their dedication, leadership, and academic excellence, highlighting their contributions to the school community.
The ceremony commenced with the presentation of the first award, honoring Scott for his curiosity and leadership, which have significantly enriched the classroom experience for his peers. Following this, the Spanish language award was presented to Sharyn, who was commended for her thoughtful engagement and genuine interest in the language and culture, as noted by her former teacher, Senora Torres.
Next, Dr. Rob Winkmuller, the director of science and research, awarded Ion Shah for his exceptional performance in rigorous science courses, including AP Biology and IB Physics HL. His achievements, including a perfect score on the Chemistry Regents exam and leadership in the Science Olympiad, were highlighted as exemplary of a dedicated scientist.
The American Chemical Society's High School Award was presented to Emily Massana by Carolyn Heck, an AP Chemistry teacher. Emily was recognized for her determination and intellectual curiosity, as well as her collaborative spirit in scientific endeavors.
Leslie Brophy, the director of CTE Digital Learning and Innovation, presented the Technology Award in memory of James Shellock to Andrew Castello. Andrew was praised for his problem-solving skills and high academic standing, with a teacher noting he ranks among the top 5% of students in two decades.
The Business Department Award was awarded to Jackson Rupaul, who demonstrated a strong passion for business and excelled in various courses. His involvement in the business honor society and DECA competitions showcased his commitment to applying his knowledge in real-world settings.
Finally, Megan Barry received recognition from Meredith Hansen, the director of mathematics and libraries, for her exceptional achievements in mathematics. Her resilience and curiosity were highlighted as qualities that inspire both peers and educators.
