Fluvanna County Public Schools is taking significant steps to enhance safety and infrastructure as the school board approved a motion to request the return of over $425,000 in unspent funds from the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors during their recent meeting. This funding will be allocated towards critical safety upgrades and facility improvements.
The proposed budget includes $143,285 for door lock upgrades, which are essential for enhancing classroom security. Additionally, $66,400 is earmarked for wearable crisis alert buttons, and $40,000 will go towards weapon detectors, all aimed at improving safety measures within the schools. The board also plans to invest $30,000 in a demographic and enrollment study to better understand the needs of the community.
Furthermore, $55,000 will be added to the capital reserve maintenance fund to support ongoing and future maintenance needs, while $78,906.10 is designated for renovations of the central elementary bathrooms, addressing long-standing facility concerns.
