Rockwall City Council made significant strides in urban development during its June 16, 2025, meeting, approving a special use permit (SUP) for a new golf driving range and family entertainment center. The council unanimously voted to grant the SUP for a 7.8-acre parcel located at the terminus of Fitsport Boulevard, allowing for the construction of a two-story facility that will include a golf driving range, mini-golf course, arcade, playground, banquet hall, and two restaurants.

The approved project, presented by Anthony Winkler of Texas Wedge, is a scaled-down version of a previously approved concept for a similar facility on an adjacent property. The new design features 11,900 square feet of golf bays and ample parking, with a total of 345 spaces provided—77 more than required. The development will also adhere to the city’s Unified Development Code, ensuring that the outdoor amusement components are set back at least 300 feet from any residential areas, which are absent within a half-mile radius.

Council members expressed appreciation for the applicant's proactive approach, noting that the previous structure on the site was demolished to comply with regulations before seeking approval. This decision reflects a commitment to responsible development practices in Rockwall.

In addition to the golf driving range, the council discussed other matters, including the approval of an ordinance amending existing zoning regulations. The council's decisions are expected to enhance recreational options for residents and contribute to the local economy.
