Pasco Hernando State College (PHSC) celebrated a remarkable achievement at the Brooksville City Council meeting on June 16, 2025, as the college's baseball team was honored for winning the national championship. Interim President Dr. Hall, along with members of the leadership team and board of trustees, expressed pride in the team's accomplishments and the dedication of its players.

Dr. Hall highlighted the significance of the championship win, emphasizing the talent and hard work of the student-athletes under the guidance of Coach Coleman. "We are just grateful for this opportunity to bring home the championship to this community," he stated, acknowledging the college's long-standing legacy in the area.

Board Chair Pearson Adams also took the stage, praising the players not only for their athletic skills but also for their academic achievements, noting that the team collectively holds a 3.4 GPA. "These young men are incredible students," she remarked, reinforcing the importance of balancing academics with athletics.

Coach Coleman shared insights into the team's journey, recalling how they overcame challenges, including a three-week hiatus due to a hurricane. He praised the players for their commitment, recounting how they volunteered to help a local veteran whose home was damaged. "That's when I knew we had a chance to have something special," he said.

The coach also celebrated a thrilling moment during the championship game, where the team made history by hitting two grand slams in a single inning, a feat accomplished only eight times in professional baseball since 1903. He credited the strong partnerships with local high schools for the team's success, noting that many players were alumni of Hernando High School.

The meeting underscored the community's support for PHSC athletics and the vital role of local schools in nurturing future leaders. As the college looks forward to more successful seasons, the celebration of this championship win serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of its student-athletes.
