Community celebrates upcoming Day of the Dead Halloween and Juneteenth events

Richmond's community spirit is set to shine this summer with two exciting events on the horizon. The Richmond Neighborhood Coordinating Council (RNCC) meeting on June 11, 2025, highlighted plans for a vibrant Day of the Dead and Halloween celebration, with the date to be finalized later this month. This event aims to bring together residents for a festive occasion that honors cultural traditions.

Additionally, the council is gearing up for a major Juneteenth celebration on June 21 at Nickel Park. This event promises to be a highlight of the summer, featuring performances from renowned local artists, including Alvan Johnson and the original members of the band Tony! Toni! Toné!. Organizers emphasized the importance of family-friendly activities, ensuring that children will have a dedicated space to enjoy the festivities.

During the meeting, Cordell Henler from the Park Plaza Neighborhood Council announced that their group will be on summer hiatus until September, while also sharing updates from other neighborhood councils. Ahmad Anderson from Laurel Park expressed gratitude for community support during their recent neighbor-to-neighbor event, which was well-attended and included contributions from local public safety and health organizations.
