El Camino Real Charter High School's academic decathlon team has made history once again, clinching the national championship for the third consecutive year. During a recent city council meeting, council members celebrated the team's remarkable achievement, highlighting their undefeated season and impressive performance against 70 competing schools.
Councilmember Blumenfield opened the presentation with enthusiasm, comparing the team's success to legendary sports dynasties. He praised the students for their dedication and hard work, noting that they traveled across the country to compete, culminating in their victory in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 3, 2025. With a score of 52,987.3 points out of 60,000, the team has now set a record for the most national titles in academic decathlon history.
Coach Stephanie Frankel expressed her gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the importance of honoring students' academic achievements. She highlighted the commitment and intelligence of her team, stating, "There is so much acrimony in the world that nobody stops and recognizes the kids for the fabulous mental work they do."
The council also acknowledged the contributions of the team members, presenting certificates to each student and applauding their collective efforts. Councilmember Rodriguez added to the celebration, emphasizing the significance of recognizing academic success alongside sports achievements.
