Council Member Curren Price of District 9 opened the discussions by expressing pride in the ongoing legacy of the Pride celebration. He highlighted the contributions of two staff members, Alex and Ricky, who exemplify public service and advocacy within the community. Price emphasized the importance of making Los Angeles a city where everyone feels seen, safe, and supported, particularly during Pride Month.

Following Price, Councilwoman Hutt took the floor to honor Jasmine Cannon, an award-winning journalist and community advocate. Hutt praised Cannon for her relentless advocacy and her role as a co-founder of the South LA Pride event, which serves as a vital space for the Black LGBTQ community. Hutt invited the public to the upcoming South LA Pride event on August 9, underscoring the importance of creating safe spaces for celebration and expression.

Councilwoman Park concluded the segment by announcing the launch of an exhibit titled "Bridal in Print: LGBTQ+ Lives Through Literature" at the Gallery Bridge. This collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs features works from 21 literary contributors and aims to celebrate diverse narratives within the LGBTQ community. Park also mentioned that LA City Hall would be illuminated in Pride colors that evening to kick off the LA Pride weekend festivities.

The meeting underscored the city’s commitment to inclusivity and recognition of the LGBTQ community, setting a tone of celebration and reflection as Pride Month unfolds.
