Middlesex County is taking significant strides in the fight against food insecurity, as highlighted during the recent County Commissioners meeting on June 5, 2025. The Board of County Commissioners commended local schools for their remarkable efforts in a food drive that yielded over 85,650 pounds of food for families in need throughout the county.
The initiative involved 118 schools, showcasing a strong community commitment to supporting those struggling to meet basic needs. Among the schools recognized were Oak Ridge High School, East Glossy High School, and Cambridge Elementary School, among others. The Board specifically acknowledged the outstanding contributions of several schools present at the meeting, including Grand Grant Bridge Elementary School, which collected 3,050 pounds of goods, and Mino PBT Nicola Mino School and Sarah B. O'Neill School, each contributing 1,800 pounds.
This commendation not only celebrates the hard work of students, staff, and families but also emphasizes the importance of community involvement in addressing food insecurity. The Board encouraged continued collaboration and support for these initiatives, reinforcing the message that collective efforts can make a significant impact on the lives of those in need.
As Middlesex County moves forward, the commitment to eradicating food insecurity remains a priority, with hopes that such community-driven efforts will inspire further action and support for vulnerable populations.
