In the heart of Flower Mound, the Historical Commission gathered to discuss the restoration of significant local landmarks, breathing new life into the community's rich heritage. The meeting, held on June 12, 2025, highlighted the ongoing efforts to preserve the stories and structures that define the area.

One of the focal points was the restoration of the Gibson Grant Log House, a mid-century home that has been transformed to reflect the civil rights era. Originally built by a resident who lived there until the age of 100, the house faced a precarious future after his passing. It was handed over to Saint Emmanuel Church, which, unable to afford renovations, passed it to Habitat for Humanity. Ultimately, Denton County took charge, relocating the house to the historical park for restoration. The family has contributed artifacts for an interactive exhibit, allowing visitors to connect with the past in a meaningful way.

The commission also discussed the Stoney Store, a once-thriving establishment that served the local farming community until its closure in 1966. Bill Marquis, a passionate local historian, played a pivotal role in saving the store from demolition. After negotiating with the owner, he purchased the building and relocated it to his property. When other towns expressed interest in acquiring it, Marquis insisted it remain in Denton County, leading to its recent move to the historical park. Although restoration plans are still in the early stages, the store's relocation marks a significant step in preserving local history.

In addition to these projects, the commission outlined future plans for the historical park, including landscaping improvements and the construction of a fence to enhance the site. The meeting concluded with a sense of excitement and community involvement, as members encouraged public participation in upcoming events and initiatives.
