Generosity took center stage at the Gloucester County Public Schools Board Meeting on June 10, 2025, as board members celebrated a remarkable total of $3,572 in monetary donations to local schools. The contributions, aimed at enhancing educational experiences, included $1,000 from the Gloucester Rotary Club for a coat closet at Gloucester High School and $250 from the Samaritan Group for field day supplies at Passport Elementary.
In addition to monetary gifts, schools received a variety of material donations for Teacher Appreciation Week. Notable contributions included a taco dinner for staff at Achilles Elementary, a veggie tray from Food Lion, and coffee supplies from Wawa and Starbucks. Bethel Elementary also enjoyed a special lunch from Duke's Deli, along with popcorn donations from Northern Neck Popcorn.
The board unanimously approved the acceptance of these donations, expressing gratitude for the community's support. "I recommend that the board accept these donations with gratitude," said board member Mister Durham, highlighting the importance of community involvement in supporting local education.
Looking ahead, the board announced summer hours for district offices, which will be open Monday through Thursday and closed on Fridays from June 9 through August 11. Additionally, the division will observe closures for the Juneteenth holiday on June 19 and Independence Day on July 4, with July 3 also designated as a day off.
The next school board meeting is scheduled for July 8 at 6 PM, where further discussions on educational initiatives and community support are expected.
