Temple ISD's CTE program secures grant and celebrates major student accomplishments

In a recent Temple ISD Regular School Board Meeting held on June 9, 2025, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as board members and educators gathered to discuss significant advancements in the district's educational programs. The meeting highlighted the dedication of the senior leadership team and showcased the district's commitment to enhancing student learning through various summer programs and initiatives.

Dr. Ott, the superintendent, expressed pride in the leadership team's efforts, emphasizing the importance of community engagement during the summer months. He encouraged board members to visit summer school sessions, where students were actively participating in academic and enrichment activities.

One of the standout moments of the meeting was the announcement of a $3,200 grant from the San Marcus Civic Foundation. This funding will allow a new dyslexia therapist to receive specialized training at the Dyslexia Center of Austin, enhancing support for students with dyslexia in the district.

Sarah Bartlett, the director of Career and Technical Education (CTE), took the podium to share impressive updates about the CTE program. With over 90% of Temple High School students participating in CTE courses, the program has seen a remarkable increase in engagement and success. Bartlett reported that students earned 372 industry-based certifications in the class of 2025, preparing them for immediate employment in various fields, including healthcare and cosmetology.

The CTE program has also expanded its community involvement, with students participating in service-based learning projects and internships. Notably, students assisted with income tax preparation through the VITA program, helping families secure over $300,000 in refunds. Additionally, the culinary department has thrived under new leadership, increasing catering opportunities and generating significant revenue for student activities.

Looking ahead, Bartlett outlined plans to enhance recruitment efforts for middle school students and strengthen partnerships with local businesses to provide more internship opportunities. The board members expressed their appreciation for the CTE program's positive reputation, noting its recognition beyond the local community.

As the meeting concluded, the board's unanimous approval of various action items underscored a collective commitment to fostering educational excellence in Temple ISD.
