During a recent government meeting in Bristol, Virginia, city officials discussed a proposed project that could significantly impact the local community. The focus was on a potential campground development near Stagecoach Road, which has raised various concerns among residents.

City officials noted that Bristol Virginia Transit does not currently serve Stagecoach Road, indicating that the project should not affect public transportation in the area. Economic development specialist Matt Chapman emphasized that the campground could positively influence property values by attracting tourists and generating revenue for local businesses. However, he also acknowledged potential challenges, such as increased traffic and noise disturbances due to the campground's proximity to residential homes. To mitigate these issues, the incorporation of green spaces or landscaping features was suggested.

Public Works Director Jake Chandler highlighted that the project would disturb more than 10,000 square feet of land, necessitating a land disturbance permit. This permit will require the applicant to implement stormwater quality treatment and quantity control measures, which will be detailed in a future site plan.

A key point of discussion was the access to the proposed campground. Officials clarified that there would be no access from Stagecoach Road, ensuring that the Hasson Heights neighborhood would not be affected by increased traffic from the campground.

Residents have expressed concerns regarding the project. One resident, Lizzie Salyer, who lives at the end of Stagecoach Road, voiced her worries about large vehicles potentially turning around in front of her home, as the area does not have a full cul-de-sac. She indicated her opposition to the rezoning request due to these concerns.

As the city moves forward with the campground proposal, officials will need to address the community's apprehensions while balancing economic development opportunities. The next steps will involve further discussions and the submission of a detailed site plan to ensure that the project aligns with the community's needs and expectations.
