Milwaukee County's Committee on Transportation and Transit has proposed significant changes to the local bus routes aimed at enhancing service efficiency and rider accessibility. During a hybrid meeting held on June 11, 2025, officials discussed the elimination of Route 49 U, a low-usage route serving the Brown Deer East Park and Ride Lot to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) during the school year. This route, which averages only 30 riders per day, will be replaced by an extension of Route 68, providing year-round service and better connectivity to the campus.

The committee emphasized that these changes are designed to improve overall service frequency and create new connections while ensuring that the adjustments do not disproportionately affect minority or low-income populations. Feedback from surveys indicated strong support for the proposed modifications, which are expected to be implemented by August 24, 2025.

Additionally, discussions included modifications to Route 19, which will shift from a narrow segment of Martin Luther King Drive to the wider Sixth Street. This change aims to reduce delays caused by traffic congestion, particularly from delivery trucks.

Supervisors also highlighted the introduction of new service along Beloit Road near McCarty Park, addressing a previously underserved area. However, concerns were raised regarding the limited bus access to Greenfield Park and the Milwaukee County Zoo, signaling areas for future improvement.
