Major infrastructure projects took center stage during the recent Committee on Budget, Appropriations, and Finance meeting in the U.S. Virgin Islands, highlighting significant advancements in education and community facilities.
The committee reported that 163 projects were completed in fiscal years 2024 and 2025, with an impressive expenditure of approximately $300 million. Notable completed projects include the Vincent Mason Pool, Coral Resort, and the Reinhold Jackson Sports Complex, alongside critical infrastructure improvements like the Altona Lagoon Bridge and the Christiansted Sewer Line Replacement.
A key highlight was the establishment of a Super Project Management Office, which has partnered with Jacobs Engineering Inc. for staff augmentation in construction and management of essential projects. Contracts were also awarded to Suffolk CBNA for educational facilities, with designs for several schools expected to be completed by October 2026.
Additionally, the committee announced the awarding of contracts for the rebuilding of the Donna M. Christian Christensen Medical Complex and the Morris DeCastro Clinic, among others. The Super PMO is actively supporting the demolition and reconstruction of the Charlotte Amalie High School, with heavy equipment already on-site.
The meeting underscored the ongoing commitment to enhancing the territory's infrastructure, with the Envision Tomorrow program accelerating housing construction, currently involving 107 homes in active development and 57 completed. These initiatives are set to significantly improve the quality of life for residents across the U.S. Virgin Islands.
