City Council approves revitalization project with affordable housing on Spring Street

During the Morristown Town Council meeting on May 13, 2025, significant discussions centered around two key ordinances aimed at enhancing affordable housing and revitalizing local neighborhoods.

The council introduced Ordinance O-20-2025, which establishes a 12-year pilot program for a transit-oriented development project. This initiative is expected to contribute to the town's affordable housing obligations while also providing a modest financial boost to the Morristown Education Foundation (MEF), a nonprofit organization that supports local schools. Notably, it will include the construction of 30 affordable housing units, representing 20% of the total units planned. The developers are also making significant contributions to the community, including a donation of a residential unit to Habitat for Humanity and the preservation of open space along the river.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to further discuss these ordinances during a public hearing scheduled for May 27, 2025, as the council continues to prioritize affordable housing and community revitalization efforts.
