Richland 01 celebrated a remarkable evening of achievements at its recent board meeting, highlighting the outstanding accomplishments of local student-athletes and dedicated staff.
The spotlight shone brightly on Noah Lucas, who was honored as the 4A state champion in shot put with an impressive throw of 17.76 meters (58 feet 3 inches). Lucas, who will continue his athletic career at The Citadel on a football scholarship, exemplified the spirit of excellence in Richland 01 athletics.
Janiyah Sumpter also received accolades for her exceptional performance as a 2024 state champion in shot put, alongside her record-setting achievements in javelin. Sumpter dominated the region championships, winning titles in shot put, javelin, and discus, and earned all-state honors in both shot put and javelin.
The meeting also recognized Kennedy Sanders, the state champion in triple jump, who achieved a jump of 38 feet and a quarter inch. Sanders will further her education and athletic career at Winthrop University.
In addition to individual honors, the AC Flora High School boys tennis team was celebrated for clinching the Class 4A state championship under the leadership of Coach Amy Martin, finishing the season with a perfect record of 21-0. Senior Liam Beasley, who played a crucial role in the championship victory, was also acknowledged for his outstanding performance.
Richland 01's eSports team made history by winning the South Carolina Scholastic Esports State Championship for Rocket League, showcasing the growing popularity of competitive gaming in schools.
The meeting concluded with a heartfelt recognition of 78 district employees who reached significant service milestones, celebrating their dedication to Richland 01. Employees with 25 years of service were honored, emphasizing the district's commitment to valuing long-term contributions.
