The police department is seeking a budget increase of approximately $129,000 to outfit 11 new officers, which includes costs for uniforms, ballistic vests, and training. The current budget for uniforms is $20,000, which barely covers existing needs, while the cost of ballistic vests has risen sharply from under $800 to over $1,263 each. Additionally, the department anticipates a significant increase in ammunition costs, projecting a rise from $6,500 to $14,500 due to heightened training requirements.

In animal control, the department is requesting a modest budget increase to support a 3% salary raise for its sole employee and to lease a new vehicle, as the current one is aging and in poor condition. The proposed budget reflects a commitment to maintaining animal welfare and public safety.

Public works also presented several budget requests, including $65,000 for manhole repairs and a shared lease for a new vac truck, which is essential for maintaining the city’s water and sewer systems. The department is also seeking an additional $40,000 for street maintenance to address deteriorating road conditions.
