Under the warm glow of the Waterbury City Hall, a sense of pride filled the air as students gathered to celebrate their achievements at the Waterbury Board of Education Workshop on June 5, 2025. The evening began with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by students Julian Alves and Alexander Perez, setting a tone of unity and respect.

Dr. Schwartz, the evening's host, welcomed attendees with a light-hearted remark about the budget presentation, quickly shifting focus to the real highlight of the night—the CABE Student Leadership Awards. This prestigious program recognizes seventh, eighth, and high school students who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities. Dr. Schwartz outlined the rigorous selection process, emphasizing the importance of skills such as decision-making, teamwork, and commitment.

As the names of award recipients were announced, the room erupted with applause. Students from various schools, including Carrington, Crosby, and Kennedy High, were honored for their exemplary leadership. Notable recipients included Zaria Thomas from Crosby High and Jaden Acevedo from Kennedy High, among many others.
