The contract details, including significant changes, are currently only accessible on the ACT website, prompting calls for the district to fulfill its commitment to transparency.
Additionally, concerns were raised about the outdated heat policy, which has not been updated on the website since 2017. Community members are currently directed to external sources for information, highlighting a need for improved communication from the district.
In response to these issues, Superintendent Mueller provided updates on initiatives aimed at enhancing staff training and support. A new contract with the National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC) was introduced, funded by a $75,000 donation from the Lions family, aimed at expanding mental health and wellness training for staff. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to align district goals with the educational outcomes expected from students.
The board also discussed a proposed change to the open campus policy, allowing ninth graders to leave campus starting next year. This policy is set for a vote at the next meeting, with discussions around liability and parental notification planned for future sessions.
