In a heartfelt ceremony at Austin City Hall, the city council proclaimed June 5, 2025, as "Rich's Art Gallery Day," honoring the significant contributions of Richard Samuel, the founder of Austin's only Black-owned art gallery. The gallery, located in East Austin's District 3, has become a vibrant hub for cultural expression and community empowerment, welcoming over 40,000 visitors and hosting more than 800 events since its inception.

Council member Jose Velasquez, who led the proclamation, praised Samuel for his dedication to enriching the local arts scene and creating a space where BIPOC identities are celebrated.
