Miami-Dade County celebrated the remarkable career of Alex Alfonso during its Employee Service Award presentations on June 5, 2025. With a tenure spanning 30 years, Alfonso has made significant contributions, particularly during his 20 years with the police department, now the sheriff's office, where he focused on domestic crime investigations.
Namira Upal, the director for procurement, praised Alfonso's extensive experience and leadership. "He has great stories to share," she noted, highlighting his management of a substantial budget of $600 million and his role in overseeing the fleet for the police department. Under his guidance, the county achieved notable accolades, including being ranked first in North America by the "100 Best Fleets" program and recognized as one of the top 50 leading fleets by Government Fleet magazine.
Alfonso's journey reflects a commitment to public service and excellence, transitioning from law enforcement to fleet management, where he has taken on additional responsibilities in risk management and human resources. His dedication and achievements underscore the vital role of long-serving employees in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Miami-Dade County's operations.
