A new river walk park plan is set to move forward in Middleton, Idaho, following a unanimous vote by the City Council during their regular meeting on June 5, 2025. The proposed park will feature an amphitheater, community center, open fields, and a dedicated dog park, among other amenities, aimed at enhancing community engagement and outdoor recreation.
Council members expressed enthusiasm for the project, with one member stating, "I love it. I mean, this has been something that I've been wanting to see for a long time." The park is designed to include a pond area with grassy and sandy spots for relaxation, as well as boardwalks through wetlands to promote educational opportunities for school children.
Concerns were raised about parking accessibility, particularly at the west end of the park near Middleton Road. Council members discussed the need for additional parking solutions to accommodate visitors, especially given the anticipated popularity of the park. The commercial development nearby is expected to contribute to parking solutions, but worries remain about potential congestion.
The council directed staff to collaborate with consultants, including those from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to finalize the reclamation plan and move the project forward. The next steps will involve securing necessary permits and funding to bring the vision of the river walk park to life.
In addition to the park discussion, the council reviewed a safety study for Cemetery Road, which highlighted the need for improved signage and pedestrian safety measures. The proposed changes aim to enhance driving conditions and ensure safer access for pedestrians near the cemetery.
With the river walk park plan gaining momentum and safety improvements on the horizon for Cemetery Road, Middleton is poised for significant community development in the coming months.
