Maui County officials are ramping up disaster recovery efforts following recent wildfires, with a strong focus on building a robust business network to enhance community resilience. During a government meeting on June 4, 2025, leaders discussed the importance of organizing local businesses that contributed resources during the crisis, emphasizing that a coordinated approach could prevent resource duplication and improve operational efficiency.

The proposed business network aims to facilitate cost recovery and operational coordination, ensuring that businesses can better support each other in times of need. "There's a lot we can do if we organize a business network," one official stated, highlighting the potential for improved community preparedness and response.

In addition to business initiatives, the meeting showcased ongoing training programs for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). With a goal of mobilizing a roster of 10,000 by 2028, officials announced upcoming training sessions, including a "train the trainer" event scheduled for June, which has already attracted 30 participants. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance emergency response capabilities across the county.

The establishment of a new Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is also on the horizon, with plans to move in by September 1. This facility will accommodate an expanded staff and improve coordination among response agencies, including the Maui Fire Department.

Furthermore, officials are collaborating with the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HIEMA) to certify communities in preparedness programs, which could unlock additional funding for disaster response efforts.
